Question Lt1 & Ls1

I may sell my 95 Lt1 for a 2000 SS.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to each engine?
How much better is an LS1 than an Lt1?

Thanks

Do a search for LT1 Vs LS1, you'll find about a hundred different topics on this same question.

Without going into a whole discussion, a stock '00 SS is a good bit faster than a stock LT1. LS1 has killer top end power.

LT1 advantages - good bottom end, great engine to build up, 14's stock

Disadvantages- hardly any top end, need good income to build a quality engine.

LS1 advantages- Killer top end and has more power stock for stock on the LT1, Minimal bolt ons make big differences, low- mid 13's stock

Disadvantages- Not to many, maybe a small lack of performance parts but not really

There are alot more pro and cons to each but it all depends on you and what engine you like. Remember you can own a 93-02 f-body and always change the engine if you have the money so its all good.

Also, it will cost a good bit less to build an LT1 over an LS1. The LS1 parts are so expensive right now. Just compare stuff. Headers that cost $500 for an LT1 will cost like $800 for the same brand...but for an LS1.

You'll need an even bigger income to build an LS1.

LS1 very fast with minor bolt ons.
LT1 very cheap to build a good motor, and I am not talkin stroker or anything, cheap to build an LT1 so that it has the same capabilities as the stock LS1.
LS1 has better head flow, a more agressive cam, things like that.
I can build a 500 horse 355 LT1 for a fraction of the cost of getting an LS1 into that horsepower range.

If you could help me with some idea's do but a good Lt1 for not that much it would help. Any tips on how to get the power to the ground better?

LS1 in some cases is about a second faster w/ a much higher trap speed and a far better top end...I think the LS1 idea is a good one

Some guys can get their cars to launch very well stock, from what I have seen these are few and far between.
I need to get to the track and update my sixty foot times but from street encounters it is hooking very well.
Here is what I have,
BMR Torque Arm
Eibach drag launch kit with air bag in right rear
Lakewood LCAs and panhard rod
Nitto 555R drag radials
KYB AGX shocks
You don,t need all this equipment to hook good but I plan on building a decently powerful motor so I went a little overkill.
I suggest LCAs and some decent drag radials and then go from there.
As far as the building the LT1, it depends alot on if you can put the stuff together yourself. I plan on building the motor myself so I think I can build a two bolt main 355 with forged pistons, ported heads and cam for around 2500. I maybe a little off on this so we will see how it plays out.

I have a 95 Z and a 99 TA. The differences are pretty big. Now, my Z is heavily modded. And the TA just has a filter. The LS1 has A LOT of top end power. I had heard about it, but it really surprised me! It would totally take an LT1 that was stock, or maybe w/ a few bolt ons.

Now, my bf has a 94 Z w/ a K&N CAI A4. We kicked one night, going about 5-10 mph, I was in the TA which is an A4 as well.
He pulled me about half a car but after about 50-60 mph, the TA started to kill him

Out of the hole, the LT1 will rule usually, b/c of the good low end. His 94 Z totally jumped out front! But the LS1 has so many things that can make up for that loss. They just don't have a lot of torque down low. The torque band is so different.

I say since your 95Z isn't too heavily modded, and you could take most of it off and sell it, to consider the LS1. I had put WAY TOO much $ in the Z to trade it, so I kept it.

Good luck, and I think you would like the LS1.
