Question Question on install of 160 degree stat.

I have limited knowledge of working on my Z28. I am going to attempt to install my new 160 degree stat tonight. Does anyone have pictures of this? I'm not even sure where it is exactly and I could use some help.

If you respond please pretend I am a complete idiot. (I'm not of course, but it helps) - Thanks

I told you most everything I knew in the last thread. My server is up, so there are a couple of pics in there that you can look at.

I let my car sit for a day before doing the install so it was nice and cold and I didn't have to drain off any coolant. Despite this I was still paranoid about getting the opti wet so I packed rags and paper towels all around the area before opening it up. It's basically the triangular housing where the top radiator hose goes into the engine. It just seeped a little when I opened it and the rags did the job.

Since you'll still be relatively warm if you do it tonight after driving you may want to drain off a little coolant and when you're done be sure to top it off and absolutely make sure to bleed the system with the little screws in the upper lines. I wish I had pics but this is fairly easy stuff.

1. take off intake elbow.(the rubber thing connected to the throttle body at the front of the intake runner/manifold.

2. Remove 2 small bolts holding the water neck onto the water pump.

3. remove the thermostat. I would recomend using a new rubber seal on the new stat and also buy a waterneck gasket and rtv gasket sealant and use them to prevent leaks.

Installation is the reverse of this.

place new rubber seal on new stat. insert with dome side up or spring side down. set stat in pump apply sealant apply gasket apply more sealant to top side of gasket. bolt water neck back on reinstall intake elbow.

Thanks to everyone's help I installed my new 160* thermostat tonight. I went for a test drive and I was amazed at how cool she stayed. Call me crazy but it felt quicker too! I'm sure that's just my mind playing tricks on me though. ;-)

Next up is K&N FIPK....................

Thanks everyone!
