Question on exhaust and 1.7rr's

My question with the exhaust has to deal with cat-backs. Where does the gains come from? Is it from it becoming 3 inches? Or is it from the different muffler?

The 1.7rr's. I wanted to know if the hotcam kit springs will handle the lift that the 1.7rr's will make over the 1.6rr's?

Re: Question on exhaust and 1.7rr's

The exhaust makes gains because the pipe is bigger and the muffler "flows" better. As for the 1.7RR working with the LT4 valve springs, I think it would be pushing it but I'm not sure.

Yes the maderal bent 3 inch pipe is the most restriction remover in the kit, the muffler is probably 25 % of it. The 1.7s would increase lift to .561 which would be past the .550 limit of the springs.
