Dealer told me today it had to be changed (I was getting serious power loss and though it was the opti). They said it was cloghed and not letting much exhaust go through. I was wondering, on the 94' TA, is the pipe is a 2.5"?? (I'm going to replace it with a high flow one, the dealer wanted 950$ cad for the original one!!!!)

The stock pipe is actually 2.75".

 

Stay away from the dealer.... That's well over price just for 1 convertor. Stop by any local muffler shop and he will have OEM cat for half that, or even cheaper an aftermarket cat like (carsound).

975 was for the whole y-pipe right? my parents had that done to my car a couple years ago before i knew anything about it. before it was even my car. Now i look at them like theyre crazy

 

975 OMG!!! i paid 75 for my magnaflow / carsound high flow. the dealers are nuts.

 

Im sure that included their labor prices... but seriously, that is outrageous. I got my headers, y-pipe and orp for less than that, all jet-hot coated i might add.

 

You can gut it (and kill the enviroment) or get a highflow magnaflow/carsound off of ebay for $45 shipped. Go 3", it welds up perfect to the stock 2.75".

I don;t know about highest flowing, but you are tlaking aobut a +/-5 hp difference. Nothing to worry about.

 

That's me, i just gutted mine. I had two go bad in one year and finally said screw it and gutted it, plus we don't have emissions tests here so i don't have to worry about that.

 

If you are goin through cats that much, then you have a problem with something else.

 

I want to gut mine but I have to be tested is there a way to gut and still pass the test?

 

Stock one went bad, then a "new" one went bad. I don't think it was new, they also had a salvage yard and i think they just got an old one and charged me for a new one. It was before i knew anything about cars and the guys at the shop was supposed to be "friends". The shop that put it on got sued and went out of buisness for shady work on vehicles. I just didn't want to buy another one so i gutted it.

It won't pass if it's gutted, you could buy an off road pipe and put on your car, then put the cat back on when it needs to be inspected. The thing is i only did mine so i wouldn't have to pay for ANOTHER cat.
