Cool Question on ABS idiot light for GM Techs here

Have an intermittant light over past 12-15 months.

From start, going forward usually no ABS light, going backward ABS light will come on when pedal depressed.

Sometimes ABS light will go on during normal driving upon depressing pedal for stoplight.

Occasionally the ABS light and Traction light will come on when pulling to a slow stop. The car will then seem to slide before it stops. This has only happened less than 6 times in past year.

Light always goes on at startup and then turns off normally.

This has been going on for about a year. Car is a daily driver and not beat on. No burnouts, holeshots ... Car has 103,XXX miles on it. Mods are in sig.

Driveability isn't affected and the system kicked in this winter past while rolling on ice.

Put a Snap On Diagnostic Scanner on it; the scan showed every friggin ABS code there is. The screen just kept scrolling and scrolling.

To follow my Helms manual will take me days.

Anyone ever seen this; where did you start; where did you wind up.

Let me know what additional symptoms or data you need to answer.

Thanks in advance!

Just for grins, I would start by removing the 3rd brake light bulbs and clean them and the sockets. Put some bulb grease on them and make sure they both work after you put them back in.

I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

The ABS circuitry runs through the 3rd brake light wiring. If there is a bulb not working the resistance of the loop changes and the ABS computer can sense that as a fault. It's obviously the easiest thing to check, first (even if it does not turn out to be the problem).

Lack of vacuum will also cause the light to go on and off, such as a bigger cam which I had problems with on my last 355, The ABS light would do what yours is doing. Ultimately it was partially the reason my last Z was totaled, But thats a sad story for another day

Wire brushed the sockets, greased them up and put two new bulbs which shine fine. Still have the ABS light.

No techs here have seen this condition in workplace? How about on any car.

It can't be throwing every code for no reason, while still operating as it was designed to.

Could heat soak from headers (Paul Barry high temp coated) on the ABS electrical connectors underhood cause this?

Cool

aw come on. there has got to be a tech on here that can steer me right. any TSB's you know of? where do i start?

test the sensors with and meter? test the module with a meter?

I'd rather get an informed opinion from here before I start chasing my tail around in circles.

TIA

I have a similar problem to yours. When I would come to a stop the "low track" light would come on and occasionally the ABS INOP light would ocme on. I found out that I had a bad ABS sensor in one of my wheels. What is happening is that one is reading the mph drop from 5-3, instead of 5,4,3,2,1. Check that out. Have someone run the codes on your car and see which wheel it is coming from.

I had the exact same problem as you. It would do exactly what you said at a stop. The brake pads were crystalized. I put new ones on. My light is still on, but my brakes work fine.

I realize this wouldn't fit your symptoms other than through coincidence, but mine used to come on and I found out that one of my plug wires was too close to the ABS sensor wire coming from the Right Front wheel. Moved them apart and I haven't seen it since.
