Question about removing the ac compressor
Question about removing the ac compressor
i want to remove JUST the compressor because it went bad. Im going to buy the delete pulley tommorow but i want to keep all the line intact so that next summer i can buy a new compressor and hook it up. Does anyone have a guide on how to?
Re: Question about removing the ac compressor
i tackled this same project a few weeks ago, couldnt find a guide either.
not a very hard task, remove belt, bolts on the front of the copressor are obvious, there are two on the back, plus the bolt that holds the a/c line bulkhead.
i have access to a/c recharge equipment, so i was able to discharge the r134 before i disconected anything. otherwise it would come spewin out and it can burn you. i did not remove anything other than the radiator fan assembly to get a little more room to work. that removes easily from the bottom by sliding it upwards about an inch and a half. you have to wrestle the coolant lines a little to wiggle it out, but not disconnect them. hope that helps. also you should cap the open lines you leave on the car to reduce air and moisture cotamination.

Re: Question about removing the ac compressor
Lucky you JASON.... I just did mine yesterday.
Anyway it was a piece of cake. 1st thing I did was bleed the line from the top. I just basically loosened the nut atached to the accumulator. Make sure you take out the fan fronting the compressor, lets it get out easy. I also removed the intake elbow with the down tube. Unbolt the bolt that holds the 2 tubes to the back of the compressor (13mm I think). Then unbolt the 3 bolts holding the compressor on. Slide it out from the front then turn towards the middle of the car and it pops right out. Total of 8 bolts...(4 fan shroud, 3 compressor and 1 in the back of the compressor.)
good luck. O yeah, while your at it change the plugs on that side even wires if you like. Might as well do them since your there, easy as hell.
