Question about lt4 conversion

I have a 95 z28 with just over 100,000 mi and I'm looking at getting the lt4 conversion kit. I don't know much about the lt4 kits, but some of the people posting on different message boards say that you shouldn't waste your money if you want to get good performance gains. I already have some of the standard bolt on's like a cold air kit, exhaust ect. I want to get around 400hp like the kit says you will, but from what I hear, that's not the case. So should I go ahead and get the lt4 kit or does anyone know of a better way to achieve around 400hp without a power adder and stock motor?

I'm a United States Marine currently stationed in Iraq so I have some time to put my plan together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about lt4 conversion

it will net 400 hp on a engine dyno but not at the wheels which most refer to on here.

Look up some of the LE1, or LE2 setups. Nice parts and a very fair price. Lloyd Elliot pieces.

Dollar for gain it is not that bad of a setup for a street driven proven car that will not have any problems and get you some nicer time slips. Plus you retain your old parts if you want to sell them or put them back on at a later time.

Don't mean to high jack this thread but, is there a better Head, cam, intake combo that can be done for the same price? Summit has the conversion for around $2300

First of all welcome aboard. If you are looking to make some good power the LT4 heads are nice.I would buy those and the intake separate, have them ported. Then get a Lloyd Elliot cam. That will get you close to 400 at the wheels.A lot more than the kit.

Re: Question about lt4 conversion

From what I've gathered, get the LT4 kit if you just wanna say, " I have an LT4" Other than that, there are other H/C packages out there that wil net you more gains for the same or less money. Search for Lloyd Elliot and Advanced Induction. Goodluck!
