question about little hole on side of lifters??

hi guys i just noticed that lifters have a little hole on only ONE side of them. does it matter which side theyre on when theyre installed? (the little hole on the side, not talking about top or bottom). i completely overlooked that, and just noticed it now. my intake is on already. i just put them in any which way, i didnt notice the hole do i gotta go in and put them facing a certain way? all facing back? front? etc? any helps appreciated. thanks

question about little hole on side of lifters??

I had a lifter go bad last year and it is sitting on my desk as a paper weight. If you look closely at it, there is a narrow waste around the middle of the lifter which will allow the oil to flow around the lifter and into the hole no matter which side it is on. I think ( but I can't remember for sure) that there was a matching hole in both sides of the block opening so it didn't matter which way it went in.

I can remember checking this out and realizing it didn't matter but I don't remember why. Can anybody provide a better explanation?

it would make sense for it to go either way, cause otherwise people would say "be sure to put little hole on xxx side". but i still wouldnt mind making sure
