Question about ignition lock cylinders-M6 vs. A4

i'm gonna buy another '94 Z28 A4 from a co-workers stepson. i was driving it around today and noticed that it doesn't have the little button to get the key out like there is on my M6 car. is this normal, or did they replace it with something different? it still uses the key with the chip in it, but i can't see why the transmission would make any difference in the lock cylinder. and fyi, autos SUCK! i'm glad i held out for an M6.

It's either one or two things in an auto I believe you can't take the key out unless your in park, I don't have an auto so this is only a guess. Or that in an m6 car that your tumbler is locked back making it harder if not impossible for theives to push start your car.

It has to do with the transmission. On every standard car I've ever driven, they have had some type of lock cylinder. It's not exclusive to F-Bodies, of even GM.

I went from an A4 to an M6 and still have the same lock cylinder with no problem.

i'm not doing a swap, i'm buying a whole different car and i just wanted to know if the lock cylinders are supposed to be different, or if someone jacked with it.

from the consensus so far, it looks as though the one that you are buying has had a different lock cylinder put in it for some reason.

Every manual car by every company has one, and most of the time the auto version of the car does not. Nothing special about it, that's how its supposed to be
