question about the fan

i have a manual fan switch on my car and noticed today that when the fan is on high, only one fan works and when theyre on low they both work. is this normal? if not, what can i do to fix it?

It all depends on how you wired up your switch.

i used the wiring harness on the passenger side under the hood. i forget what letters i hooked to, but i dont think that is relevant, is it? if so i can go look. ive had it hooked up for over a year now. and in all honesty, this is actually the first time i paid attention to it. it didnt sound any different, i just happen to be under the car looking for a freon leak and happened to notice it.

Did you follow the wiring diagrams that are posted many places? Both relays have to be grounded at the same time for both fans to run at high speed. Grounding them separately will get you both fans on at low speed and only the RH fan on at high speed.

okay, the setup i have is this: both splices lead into the car into a three position toggle. the toggle has three prongs on the bottom. the two outside prongs are for the splice wires and the middle being the ground wire. so i have only one ground wire going out.

okay, my brain is smoking. the only way to have both grounded is to have two seperate switches. the first switch connected to the "low" splice and ground. and the second switch would have coming into it the "high" splice and the ground from the first switch. does that sound right? thanks again for your help. i appreciate it.
