Question About A Code My Car Is Throwing

Its a 96 Z complete tune up 3 months ago the check engine light will intermittenly come n go when it does the car runs/idles rough doest perform as it should. Tonite i hooked it up to a diagnostic machine it tells me code P0100 mass airflow circuit malfunction also in the misfire history it tells me #1 plug has misfired 1 time #4 30 times and #8 806! Whats going on with this car? Another code that showed being cleared is is P0300 random cylinder misfire history i`d say so if the plug #s listed misfired that many times. I`ve owned the car only a couple of months prior to this starting a few weeks ago it was fine now im about to loose my mind. Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Re: Question About A Code My Car Is Throwing

My Actron DTC lookup utility says PO100 is a MAF or VAF Circuit Malfunction. Not sure what exactly you should look for, just wanted to let you know.

BTW: Here is some good info on PO100:

Good luck!

Start by cleaning your MAF. If your MAF is not functioning properly, it could be sending readings to the PCM, causing excess or not enough fuel to the plugs, thus causing your misfires. I wouldn't be surprised if you start showing O2 sensor DTC's soon.

Re: Question About A Code My Car Is Throwing

P0100 indicates "mass air flow system circuit malfunction (static frequency)" - that's from the GM diagnostic website. The MAF sensor reading is not moving. A very common problem, particularly on the 97's for some reason, is loss of power to the MAF sensor. Key on, check the voltage at the pink wire on the MAF sensor connector. Should read +12V. If it doesn't, its not unusual to find the wire has broken somewhere in the harness and needs to be replaced.
