Question about cleaning cam bearings
Question about cleaning cam bearings
I'm about to put my LE1 cam in, and I was wondering if it might be a good idea just to pour a couple quarts of oil down through the lifter valley and just let it flow through the cam bearngs, hopefully washing any debris that might have gotten in there out with it. I don't have any reason to think that dirt got in there, but better safe than sorry. Anybody see any problem here?
Re: Question about cleaning cam bearings
Took a better look at it, wouldn't really effect the bearings. maybe if I put the oil pan back up there and used just filled the sucker to the top... But is there anything I should do before putting the new one in to clean things up? I took a look in there and everything looks clean as could be, no obvious knicks or anything, but I'm just paranoid.
Re: Question about cleaning cam bearings
I would be more concerned in making sure the cam is clean before going in. Your better off pulling the motor and changing the cam bearings if your afraid they may be bad. Make absolutely sure you new cam is clean and wear some surgical gloves you can buy at autozone when applying lube to it.
Re: Question about cleaning cam bearings
I got some deisel fuel and just doused it and took a soft non lint rag and wiped it down then sprayed it with carb spray. After that I lubed it up like a gay **** star and put it in.
