question about cats/check engine light

i have a 1997 z28 camaro, im about to get some high flow cats becuase mine are shot, but they don't have the o2 sensors...how do i get around the check engine light? they wont inspect my car if it is on, anyone know how to get the light to stay off and read the cats are there? i have heard of people on other cars using a obd1 computer i dunno if that can be done with mine.

can the 02sensors be drilled in the new cats im gettin?

thanks

Rich

Re: question about cats/check engine light

The O2 sensor is not in the CAT but after the CAT. So there shouldn't be any problem. If you want to get rid of them you can buy O2 sims., that fool the computor into thinking that they are there.

Re: question about cats/check engine light

You have a pair of 02 sensors threaded into the y-pipe after the cats that monitor their efficiency. By putting in a pair of high-flow cats, it should not cause any issues but it may still cause an SES light. In that case, it would be simple to purchase a pair of 02 simulators as mentioned above and plug them into the rear 02 sensor harnesses. The simulators can be found at Thunder Racing, Summit, or Jegs for around 90 dollars.
