Question Question about a Cam

I bought this 94 z28 about 6 months ago and it drives like it's got a cam in it. How can I tell if it has one, and how would the car drive?

Well if you think you might have a cam, the car will idle lopey (shakey feel) around 650rpm since you have a auto.

It does exactly that, but before I go nuts trying to fix a lopey idle I would like to find out for sure. But how??

I sure hope it has a cam or it probably wouldn't run too well.......jk

i would pull the driverside vavle cover and see if you have aftermarket roller rockers first. Its a pretty safe bet that noone put a cam in there without upgrading the rockers. If it does have RRockers then you will need a degreeing kit to measure the lift and identify the cam. Most people would do many other mods before a cam, but if someone had to pull the motor its possible they put a cam in an otherwise stock car.

My guess is that your running on 7 cylinders due to an ignition issue and thats why you think it's cammd. I could still beat mustangs on 7 cylinders, so its plausible that you didn't now it wasn't running up to potential. Have you raced any other stock fbodys?

I haven't raced anyone yet. To me the car is insanely fast, but this is my first car with more than 6 cylinders so I don't really know. I have reoplaced literally every sensor, and the whole ignition system and the lopiness remains. That's why I'm thinking along this line. The car shakes when I'm at a light, kinda wants to lurch forward, almost like a chugging. But as soon as I accelerate the slightest bit it runs great. Freescanned the car and everything was within specs. The only thing was the IAC was a little low, as if there was a vac. leak, but I have excellent vacuum. It's a new IAC. I'm hoping there is a cam in it. It would explain a lot.
