question about air intake

The rubber hose that fits onto the throttle body has a nice 2 foot or so piece of plastic that drops off the bottom in front of the motor, every camaro ive seen has it. ive been told its a silencer keeps down on the air noise. my question is how do i get rid of it a friend said something about a free mod whatever that means i just want it gone.

Thanks

They sell after market ones like the Trick Flow and Vortech elbows but they are kinda spendy, like 90 bucks. You can get the 1le rubber replacement one, basically looks like the stock one without the donkey dong. That one is like 60 bucks.

Just about anywhere I guess. Summit, Jegs, Thunder Racing. Even Ebay has the 1le all the time for like 65 bones.

Invest in a Vortech elbow. Skip the 1LE. THe aluminum elbows look 100000000times better when you lift the hood. Plus the 1Le's are annoying if you plan on doing work. You have to remove your eblow for Darn near everything.

The downside to the Vortech aluminum elbow is that it will conduct heat and raise your intake temp. It looks a lot better, but if you lose power due to the heat, then why bother.

Get the Vortech. The heat issue is about the fact that it's made out of metal rather than rubber...but the Vortech elbow is better constructed to flow air. It has a wall inside of it that guides air directly to the TB ports. The Trick flows don't have that but the Vortechs do. Vortech is like 8 more bucks or so like 90 or something. You can get the Vortech Elbow from Summit.com Forgot where I got mine exactly. Maybe Thunderracing.com. Don't worry about loosing any HP you wont. It's very possible to gain HP with the better flowing intake elbow. Heatsoak will coast you like .00000023hp if it ever becomes a factor. NEver heard any compaints.

Doesn't the vortech elbow prohibit you from using a TB airfoil?
