Pushrod Length question

I am building a 383 and plan on assembling it this weekend. The block has been decked, and the heads have been decked. The heads wont be in until Friday, not leaving me enough time to get a set of pushrods. I have a set of 7.2 inch (stock size) from Comp... but am pretty sure they arent going to work. What size pushrod can I expect after milling both the block and head zero decked?

Re: Pushrod Length question

I'm in the same boat. The pushrods will be the last thing I order. No way to know until the engine is assembled. You need the correct valve train geometry for proper operation of the valve train. I did order my pushrod checker.

Re: Pushrod Length question

The shop has one... but I want the pushrods sitting there, that way when its measured, I can just slide the correct ones in. Ive been working on this motor for 18 months, and I want it this weekend... im tired of waiting.

Re: Pushrod Length question

Since you have waited 18 months, be patient and do it right. 6 months from now, you won't remember the extra wait.

Re: Pushrod Length question

Obviously you guys didnt read my second post... the pushrod length will be measured... but that doesnt prevent me from ordering 3 different sizes and having the correct one laying around. With decking both the block and the heads... I shouldnt need any shorter then 7.0 correct?

Re: Pushrod Length question

You shouldnt need anything shorter than 7.1" if you ask me. 7.05" is really getting some material removed from both the cylinder heads and the block and using a very thin head gasket.

Re: Pushrod Length question

You also need a solid lifter to measure. I need to get one the same length as my morels aslo so I can measure in a couple weeks when everything is ready.

Re: Pushrod Length question

Which solid lifter will work and is the same size? Maybe just make a solid out of one of the hydraulics?
