Push Rod Length?

I'm sorry for asking this, since there seems to be a lot of topics about checking the push rod length.

So I purchased AI's 226/234 cam kit, and I have everything I need except the push rods. So I was wondering, if in order to figure out the proper length would I need to have all of the new valve train components installed (including the cam), then use the comp cams push rod length checker?

BTW, here is the link to the cam I purchased.

yes, your valvetrain must be installed to check for pr length. theoretically you could do it by installing only a few valves/lifters, but i wouldnt see the point since it literally takes 30 seconds to install all of them.

If you've never altered your cylinder heads, valve stem length, deck height, lifters, head gasket thickness or had the heads milled, you can use the stock length 7.20" pushrods.

The cams base circle and lift will effect where the rockers rides on the valve tip also. The things that RamAir mentioned will effect it also but I would check with the new cam installed and the lifters you plan on using to make sure that you get the correct length.

Well the thing is, the guy who will be installing the cam for me will only be able to have my car for a weekend. Something I was just thinking about was if he installed everything except the push rods, took the measurement then put the stock rods back in. Would it would hurt if I drove my car to my house that way, then replace the rods myself when they arrive?

Some people do what you are taking about ith no problem. I doubt it will be muchh off with the stock heads staying on the car like RamAir mentioned.

It should be fine to get the car home and you can check PR length when you get the car home. Just look at the wear pattern on the valve tip and that will tell you how correct (or in correct) the PR length is.
