Re: purpose of open headrers.

Woah, slow down your posting. Youve asked this question 3 times in the last 20 minutes. This is a forum, not a chatroom. You need to give the thread some time for people to read it.

As for the answer to your question, for a street car there are no advantages. It will be extremely loud, rattle your interior and fill your car with fumes when you are not moving. Not to metion its not street legal to run a car without an exhaust system anyways.

Some race cars may run a short glass pack or something right off the header collectors. I'm sure a few may run open headers... but people usually run something attatched to the collector. The object there is to have the least restrictive exhaust possible.

Less back pressure = more horsepower. Also means less torque. And what Steve0 said. Try not to post so rapidly.

Re: purpose of open headrers.

Yeah, anyone who beats a dead horse is a ********. So, stop already

Drag race cars usually run open headers with a collector.

The main exception is supercharged cars which run straight pipes (sometimes called "zoomies").

There are morons who run open headers on the street. These are painfully loud, and as mentioned can ghas the interior of the car leading to all sorts of unpleasantness. Some tracks require mufflers, and racers will use something like this if they have to.

The best street designs provide decent sound reduction with minimal backpressure.

Yeah. Notice that it has like a 2.5" inlest and a 5" outlet. The sure sign of a fart can. A real race muffler looks like this.

It serves as both a collector and a muffler. I have a buddy with a big block in a RED running low 7's with these and it's so quiet it's almost eerie. Quite cool.

I really enjoyed this little text you wrote about that muffler: "The best street designs provide decent sound reduction with minimal backpressure."

Was the "decent sound reduction" supposed to be a hint of sarcasm?
