pulling motor tranny bolt help

pretty much just as the title states i am puling the engine from the top (yea yea i know why not out the bottom, but all i have left at this point is tranny bolts and motor mounts) So i have the bottom two bolts out and i cant seem to get at the next two up, let alone the two on top. what tips/tricks do you all have for getting those bolts undone. also what am i missing in trying to get the tranny dipstick out of the way to get at the next bolt up on the pass side.

i have thought about taking off driveshaft and crossmember and motor mounts to kind of tilt the whole assembly with the cherry picker to get them off, but is there another way. thanks

You are corect, drop the crossmember and let the engine and trans droop a little. For the top bolts I always use about 2ft. of extensions and a universal to get all the top bolts. A little trick for the universal is put a band of tape around it so you can get it on the bolts a little better.

Get a $50.00 Happy Hooker and don't look back.
It will come out slicker than snot without fooling with anything on the chassis.

I pulled the motor from the top (and put it back in from the bottom). One bell housing bolt doesn't come all the way out, it stays in until the motor is free from the vehicle. Extensions and universals help a lot.

edit: (I think i used an end wrench on the upper bolts)

The two on the VERY top, loosen the motor mount bolts and remove the trans crossmember and let the rear of the trans droop down so you can get them with a long extension.

The second one from the bottom on the drivers side is the bitch, best to get it with a gear wrench from the bottom. When you get it out take a BFH to the floorboard right there and beat it in. Makes it MUCH easier to go back.

I pulled the top bolts from inside the vehicle. Pull the center console and the shifter. Then pull the tranni crossmember, and stick a jack underneath it. Then lower it down and get the top bolts from inside the car, through the hole in the tunnel.

As for the others bolts, like everyone else is saying, lots of extensions and universals.

Thomas.

Everone is making it sound harder than it realy is, Iv'e had the trans in and out around 4 times and the motor once (through the top). That happy hooker looks like it would help but, a good old chain works with some thinking.

Well got it out last night. Those bolts are such a pain. I ended up unhooking the driveshaft in the rear and the crossmember and the torque arm and lowered it down. Getting on the top two wasnt bad but breaking them (and for that part all the tranny bolts) free was such a pain. Granted i am working on the floor and only able to raise the car up 18 inches or so, so space was extremely tight, especially since i left the entire exhaust headers all the way back hooked up.pass side wasnt two bad and drivers side just required pulling the tranny toward the pass side to give a little more room. Once the motor was free it came up and out pretty painlessly only a tiny tiny bit of rubbing without a hooker or a leveler. now its time to tear into the s.o.b. thanks for the help guys.
