Pulling the motor out the top

Has this been done, I did a search and most like to do it from the bottom.
I really would like to pull motor and trans from the top. Has it been done?

Its done all the time, but i'd recommend going out the bottom. I've dropped mine out the bottom and it was 10x easier than when my buddy did his out the top. I also like the fact that you can get everything perfect on your engine then stick it back up in the car, rather than putting the motor in and piecing it together in the engine bay.

I have done it. Its not too difficult, but from what I understand, more time consuming than pulling from the bottom. If you have any specific questions you can pm me.

My friend just did it. He had to take out the radiator, everything on the front of the motor, the intake manifold, and the valve covers as well as some other odds and ends. It is definitely more work then it sounds, but it is doable.

Ok stupid question, how do you pull it out the bottom.
Does the car need to be on a lift, how do you lower it.

NO
Ya can get a Happy Hooker from Auto Zone or Pep Boys(forget which one)leave the tranny in the car on a jack, pull all front accessories and outer dampener weight angle it to the driver's side and come on out. To much extra to unhook coming out the bottom and ya got to get it up a LONG (3' to bottom of tires)way to get the engine out from under it.

But to each their one, have been coming out the top for a bunch of years and my preference.

Took mine out and put it in through the bottom. Im only 19 but somewhat mechanically inclinded, so it wasnt so difficult. Heres some pics of when i was putting her back in.

Re: Pulling the motor out the top

If I would have had access to a cheap lift, i might have tried the bottom. But was going to be pain in the butt, and a waste of money. So i did it in the parking lot from the top... All i had was time so it was no big deal. take the intake off, crap off the front, and its fairly simple... for an extremely easy pull, take the heads off! beware the oil pressure sending unit... it gets snagged easilly.

so i depends on what you have available to you and how comfortable you are with each!

Maybe he was at that point in the install where he was hoping it would fall and then the nightmare would be all over.

I've done it out the bottom with a lift and a steel table on wheels with adjustable mounts to fit the engine and it IS easy that way, just lower the lift, deposit K member and engine, raise lift and roll engine to part of shop ya want but having to do all the jacking, blocking, screwing around ain't worth it to me.
