So I cant even see the tranny from the engine bay and the motor is only inches away from the radiator. .... is there a tutorial out there? Maybe you guys can tell me how to get it?
Id like to listen to your strategies!

You could always jack the body off of the front subframe and just roll the motor out from underneath.

You need to take the radiator out and I think you also need to take the intake manifold off. You can also take the engine and tranny out from the bottom(which is what everybody prefers to do).I'm not sure which way is easiest since I've never taken an engine out of a 4th gen.

I'm sure somebody else will chime in that has done this before.

Re: Pulling motor with a cherry picker... HOW!??! No room!

i have done it both ways, the easiest was is to unbolt the K member from the bodyand drop it out the bottom, this is done very easily with a lift, i also pulled the motor out the top the only way it fit was by completely disassembling it, the intake and heads have to come off, all accesories must come off and the radiator and a/c condenser must come out, i prefer the first method but if you dont have a lift it is tough to get the car high enough to get the motor out from under it, and by tough i mean impossible

Actually you can use the cherry picker to lift the body and take the engine out from below. I did it not too long ago, it was very easy to do.

I guess I have to tear it down... damn.
Heads, intake, plus the radiator...thats a lot of work but I guess I have to do it. Heads and intake are coming off anyways.

Re: Pulling motor with a cherry picker... HOW!??! No room!

I just pulled mine and rebuilt it. I put it back in this last weekend. Engine can come out the top with heads and intake and tranny altogether. Go to tpis.com and buy the happy hooker lifting tool and you can pivot it right out. It took me about 2 hours to get it out and lesss time to get it back in. Take your hood off and the windsheild wiper covers and you will be good to go. That tool is located under tools and st equipment on www.tpis.com Let me know if you have any ?'s

so out the top is pretty easy?? I want to do it this way because having my car that high in the air to get it out the bottom is a little scary to me.

Re: Pulling motor with a cherry picker... HOW!??! No room!

I just put mine in from the top.

I removed the following:

Radiator
Headers
Starter motor
alternator
power steering pump

You also need to disconnect the tranny and torque converter from the motor. Easiest way to do this is to disconnect the driveshaft, tranny mount, and engine mounts. Then slide the motor and tranny forward so you can access the bell housing bolts from the top instead of using a 4 ft long extension from under the car.

Also comes out a lot easier if you remove the flywheel and harmonic balancer.

Yes it is easy. I would remove the tranny too while you are there. They will both come out together. I just removed the radiator, alternator, and the water pump. You will have to move the power steering pump out of the way and remove the accessory bracket. Thats all that has to come out

same here. So much easier to roll the whole front suspension out. It's also makes putting the motor back in w/ headers and accessories a LOT easier.
