Pulling 5 degrees timing

From idle to the end of the 1/4 i'm pulling from 2 - 5 degrees timing. I also think that maybe my Crane Gold rockers may need readjusted, would these being too loose maybe cause this false knock?

How much do you think this would affect my times? I've noticed a significant drop lately but the weather plays a big part in this i'm sure.

Roller rockers are noisy in nature. Your knock sensor will pick it up as false knock. Get an LT4 KM and see what happens. The LT4's came with a less sensitive KM due to that very thing, roller rockers.

Loose/noisy rockers can cause false knock.

5 degrees of timing can be between 10-20 RWHP on your setup.

Re: Pulling 5 degrees timing

I already have the LT4 KM - good suggestion tho.

Ion - thanks again, that's what I was looking for - a guesstimate on power loss. Trying to find out how much power I can regain minus the heat.

I went from 12.7's or so (in heat) to 13.0's

Changing 02's, fuel filter, oil tonight so I'll see what happens Saturday. Also moving from my current 3.42's to 3.73's - hopefully this week.

Do a board search and get the resistor and install it in line and get rid of the retard. There are instructions and the part number in the archives to get it at Radio Shack.

I'm pretty sure he's got Tunercat. You can just zero out the WOT KR (KR vs RPM) table.

Re: Pulling 5 degrees timing

My car pulls 10-12 degrees timing at WOT, how much power am I loosing? I have the mods in my signature.. with stock tuning... no LT4 KM. Tuning is next on my list.. My car pulls about 5 degrees at like 4k rpm.. then it just gets worse. Some of it is due to loud vavle train.. I keep having to tighten my valves. I used my dad's auto X ray scan "operational data" to see the KM retard.

Re: Pulling 5 degrees timing

Pull your knock sensor out and wrap the treads with a couple wraps of teflon tape.

Re: Pulling 5 degrees timing

Not trying to argue, but I heard that the teflon wrapped threads on the knock sensor doesn't desensitize it at all. I think teflon wrapped KS is a myth.
Anyone care to bust this myth?

All I know is I did that to mine and went from around 5 degrees retard to 0.

Re: Pulling 5 degrees timing

Check out my posts in the "LT4 Knock Module" thread

Always verify the knock is false and not real. If it is indeed false you might want to try swapping the LT1 KM back in before disabling the knock retard.

Noisy rockers, exhaust to body contact, rocker arm to retainer contact, and any other mechanical noise sources/problems can definitely trigger false knock.
