Pulled water pump to and found no leaks..

My 96 z28 was on a lift the other day and I found drops of coolant on the front of the pump... I pulled the pump off and it didn't seem like it's leaking from the cam driven shaft on the back of the pump (the pump had dirt on it and it was dry and the opti looked dry)... it looked very dry back there and the front of the pump had no droplets today when i was pulling the pump... the other day on the lift there were a few drops on the floor when the car was raised... The car has 34k miles and I'm going to try to replace the gaskets between the pump and the block first and take the pump's front cover and resealing it with RTV... does the gasket between the pump and block ever leak? I know I know, I sound cheap, but I'm really broke and the remanufactured pump whcih i was going to get is on backorder and I'm not paying $150 for something that's not really needed... If anything I'll get the CSI pump next week

Does the seal by the cover in the front of the pump ever leak?
