Pulled the cat..wierd exhaust noise.. normal?

ok pulled the cat, i have a flowmaster cat-back setup prexisting.. i know im suppose to have a -raspy- exhaust sound.. which is alright.. but when i downshift and it revs high say 2500 rpm or so.. depending on the situation (ya i know dont downshift that high) .. im jus sayin for example to pinpoint this wierd noise.. or when im shifting gears.. there is this really high pitched raspiness thats like a really hard fast tick.. like a sound thats all over the place. hard to explain really.

i have kn fipk, stock manifolds/ ypipe welded onto a fatty pipe.. i think its 3".. not sure.. then connects back to the normal size pipe and then connects to a fatty flowmaster catback setup.

i just wanna get rid of the high pitched shattering ticking noise.. its like a backfire on speed. a bubbly backfire on speed. and it sounds all messed up.

other then that i love the deep throated sound of my baby now

its jus when i let go of the gas or downshift.. ive got an undesireable extra-raspy noise. im up for the raspy.. but not the crazy-rasp.

any ideas? - change in exhaust.. get headers to even out the flow.. i know my bottleneck is the manifolds and ypipe right now so im caught in the middle.

Ummm....I have a flowmaster with an !cat setup and I dont have that noise. Mine sounds fine whether downshifting decelerating upshifting you name it. I hope its something stupid. I will be adding headers in the next week or two, Ill let ya know how it sounds then

Back in my Flowmaster days, mine did the same thing after I removed my cat. Turns out there was a weld on one of the baffles in the muffler that was broken and let that baffle rattle inside the muffler. I ditched the Flowmaster shortly there after and fixed my problem.

i was thinking that you might have an exhaust leak that letting air get sucked into the pipe on decelleration. that can cause some wierd stuff to happen.

Anytime you remove your cat/cats on a Y-pipe set-up with our cars, you'll get a noticeable amount of raspiness/popping in the mid rpms either during acceleration or when coming off the throttle or downshift in that area...Some systems just have more rasp/pops than others...

That is most likely what you're talking about and it is normal once you ditch the cat/cats. Want those annoying sounds to go away? Put a highflow cat on or convert to a "true dual" set-up...
