Pro's and con's of lowering my car (dms springs)

Hello everyone I wanted to get some dms springs for my ride. I saw all the picks people were posting and all the cars look great. What does lowering your car do besides sit lower? Do you have better acceleration? Does your car have better handling? I know i have a higher chance of scraping if i get them. Some people mentioned to get some new shocks and struts is this required? Heard someone mention bilstein shocks where can i find them?

Thank you in advance

I'd say longtubes are definately out the window.. unless jethot's new design really improves ground clearance. I can say that I certainly would not lower the car with the hookers I have. Handling will be improved because of stiffer spring rates and a lower center of gravity BUT drag launches will suffer as a result.

My car stock barley clears speed bumps, going straight. But if I lower it, then it'll be like backing out the drive way. I have to do it at an angle.

What does lowering your car do besides sit lower?

Thats really it, you drop the ride height

Do you have better acceleration?

No

Does your car have better handling?

Yea, I heard it does, you just lowered the cars center of gravity

Some people mentioned to get some new shocks and struts is this reguired?

You should, you should also get a panhard bar to keep the rear centered. Most companies sell a drop kit, to keep the suspesnsion geomtry correct

Heard someone mention bilstein shocks where can i find them?

Any big race shop carys the, Motor Sport, SLP, Thunderracing

Well thats why you can't do a slam like with say a sport line kit, say what you want but thats a very agresive drop for an already low car. But if you stick to the pro kit, you should be fine.

I had my car lowered for about a year. Yeah it looked nice and the cornering and handling was improved, but the ride is more bumpier and its harder to hook up. The stiffer springs dont allow the car to squat like it should which hurts your traction.

Those longtubes from jethot are what im waiting to get. I guess I should just wait and see whats going to happen with those lt headers then cause those are more important to me.

Neil350 thanks for answering my questions. lt1ponykilla thanks for your reply. I guess i probably won't be getting them now since i plan on getting lt headers from jethot. Those springs sounded like a really good price ($155) plus i didn't have to pay for shipping (eric of dms offered a local pickup for me). Damme this sucks!!!

Thumbs up

I have yet to have a clearence problem with my FLP's & DMS Springs. The springs are awsome. My FLP's from what I understand have better clearence than other LT's. I did get new shock & struts. It was just a logical move. I went with SLP Grade Bilstiens. My car is like a new car again... Definately corners better now too.. Also the DMS springs are a progressive rate spring & don't lower the car as much as others on the market. You can see pics of my car by clicking the link in the sig.

Good Luck

How much do the DMS springs lower the car??? What is the lowest drop people have gotten.
I love f bodys with an aggressive stance it makes it look alot better when you have 17's in wheels or whatever on. I like the idea that it doesnt affect drag racing, and the price is great too.

I really don't think my car is any more than an inch lower. Notice my pics in the sig. I did do new SLP Bilstien Shocks at the same time so that may be why I am only about an inch lower. I love them......

all ya gotta do is lay out some 2 by 10's out in front of the front tires and drive up on them and then jack up the car, no biggie really, pretty simple.

Jack

I drive up on boards as well, but I also push my jack under the front right in front of the driver-side tire. The air scavenger gets in the way if you go from the direct front. I have a prokit, and there's no way headers would fit under it without a lot of issues.
