mk i was looking at those hypertech programmers and was wondering if they are worth the money....im wanting to put n20 on the car in the future and i think you have to retard it 2 degrees for every 50hp if im not mistaken.... can i retard it with this programmer???
What year LT1 are we tlaking about here - makes a difference? Add a SIGNATURE with basic info about your car - year, engine trans and any major mods.
The only thing you can do with OBD-I HPP tuners is to load a "canned" performance program (which adds nothing), or change things like rear axle ratio, shift points, tire diameter, fan on/off temps, rev limiter and speed limiter. You can not alter the timing.
On the HPP OBD-II programmers, they added a slot for a "custom tune" cartridge, so that you can have Hypertech make you a custom tune cartridge.
Definitely not the right way to spend your money. I tried the Hypertech on my 94 when it was close to stock, and it produced no measurable performance gains. I have seen magazine tests where the HPP actually lost HP.
As noted above, get a custom tune, either through one of the Supporting Vendors linked at the top of every page, or from a local dyno shop with LT1 tuning capabilities.
As far as retarding timing for nitrous, generally you do NOT want to do that in your PCM tune. You want to maximize non-nitrous performance with your PCM tune, then use an external device, like a spark retard box, to pull timing ONLY when you are spraying.

If you plan to run nitrous, you need several components - a window switch to limit what RPM the nitrous can be sprayed at, a rev limiter that cuts ignition, so it can be set below the stock rev limiter, which cuts fuel, and a timing retard control. A box like the MSD Digital6 incorporates all those features. There are other products available that can do similar things.
