Problems with TB coolent Bypass

Am I the only one that had problems with getting the feed line off the throttle body?
It's impossible to get to the clamps that hold the small coolent line that goes into the TB without taking the brackets for the alternator off and the bolts that hold the alternator brackets in place are friggen impossible to take off. Also on my 96 z28 the hoses are dry rotted and there's not enough space to take the hose off of the TB cleanly so you have to massacre the damn thing to get it off the TB.
Ugh. This is being a much bigger pain in the *** then I thought it was going to be.

So am I the only person that had all these problems when trying to do the TB coolent bypass?

Re: Problems with TB coolent Bypass

I just did mine recent and found the same problem, I unbolted all the alt bolts..and it gave me plenty of room...then the hose that comes out of the TB is longer so it should have plenty of slack to hook up to the inlet TB line, in fact, the small hose that was from the metal line to the inlet on my TB i threw away and just hooked up the outlet line directly to the inlet metal line...if that all makes sense...so all i used for the job was the (2) TB caps on the TB where the old hoses were

Yeah I'm planning on doing that as soon as I can get something to take these bolts on the alternator off. Any tips on that?

Everyone makes this out to be a really easy mod... has been a real pain in the *** for me but maybe I'm just slow

Removing the bracket from the intake to the alternator is pretty easy.

Working on these cars in general is just a pain in the ***. In general, i have found that taking the time to give yourself enough room (i.e. removing the alternator) will make things easier and faster in the long run. That being said, a 1/2 inch drive socket will pull that alternator no problem. If you plan on doing ANYTHING on the pass side in the future, get used to pulling that alternator.

We had problems with our alternator bolts being frozen (son and I both have 94 Z's). It just takes a good dose of brute force ONCE. An impact wrench might help if you have one available. A breaker bar works, too.

As soon as I get done with class I'm planning on getting a breaker bar and trying again. I was moving my whole car yesterday pushing on the bolt trying to get it to budge. I couldn't get the 9/16 bolt that goes into the manifold off or the 1/2 that goes into the top of the alternator off, but the one on the back was easy. Just gonna go beat it up with a breaker bar and hope it'll come loose.

Yup...counter-clockwise = loosen, clockwise = tighten...beyond that it's a matter of velocity!

You don't need any parts for this unless you want to put vaccum caps / seals (dunno what they're called) on the open ends that will be on the throttle body. Getting the hose for the feed line (left side of the TB) off the throttle body is the only hard part... mine was dry rotted so I cut if off at the TB then pulled it off the steam pipe with pliers. Then route the return line back to where the feed line went. As long as you re-use the hose clamps you don't need to buy anything.
