i have to crank and crank on my car to get it to start and then it runs like crap and backfires and pops until it warms up and then it runs great. any ideas?
Re: problems starting car?
First you need to read the sticky about use of the ttt. Second, put the particulars of your vehicle in a signature like year, tranny, mods etc.....
Then you can check the oil for fuel contamination. If the oil is contaminated, change it a couple of times and don't run it till you correct the problem. Chances are good that the engine is flooding after it is shut off. This would most likely be caused by either an injector sticking open or the fuel pressure regulator has a hole in the diapragm. The hole would cause the vac line to be wet if you pulled it off the regulator and looked at it.
To further test the theory, the next time you try to start the engine, hold the throttle to the floor and then crank it. If it starts easier, you know the problem is from flooding.
To check the injectors, pull the fuel rail and all the injectors up out of the intake. Then use a small wire to jump 12 volts to the fuel pump prime connector to start the pump. With the pump running, have a look at all the injectors to see if any are dripping.
