Problems with fans

Several months ago, one of my fan motors went out and took the relay with it. I replaced both fan motors and put in a brand new relay. Now, my fans aren't working at all. They never turn on, and my car is getting really hot on a daily basis.

Anyone have an idea for a fix?

Re: Problems with fans

You done any kind of diangnosis? try disconnecting the water pump temp sensor this should make both fans work. If they don't check the fuses and relays.

I switched both the relay and the fuse without any changes. I disconnected the ECT sensor on the water pump, and the fans still didn't come on.

Anyone have a clue?

Look through the diagnostic portion of this write-up.

Re: Problems with fans

I did the jumper on the DLC and the fans did not turn on, but there was a "running" noise and slight vibration coming from the sensor directly below the throttle body (IAC sensor?).

Does that indicate anything?

I don't think so. Jumpering the DLC operates some things, so it might have been that you were hearing. Use the schematic to verify you have proper voltage and ground when it is supposed to be there.

I *really* appreciate your help, but honestly, I'm terrible with understanding schematics, multi-meters, etc. I'll probably have to let someone take a look at it.

Yeah, if you don't have a little proficiency in meters or schematics, it makes it a little tough. Electrical stuff has to be the hardest to explain to someone that does not have some experience with it.

It's tough but i'd have to go with metal work.

I'm going to make an effort to test the fans themselves by connecting them to the battery this afternoon. At least I'll know if they're capable of working.

Thanks again!

Re: Problems with fans

Is the SES Light on???

Mine came on when my Temperature Sensor Cracked... If that sensor is bad then the fans won't come on at all. Also check the Fuse for the Fans. I replaced the Relay and then discovered that there is also regular Fuse as well. Turns out when the Temp Sensor cracked, it also blew the Fan Fuse, Relay was actually OK.

There is no SES light. As mentioned above, I've checked the fuses and the relays.
