Problems with Autozone clutch
About 2 months ago, my 2nd stock clutch went (car has 85k miles). My car is basically stock, so I decided on the cost effective autozone clutch. I called the local store, told them what I needed, and placed my order. Clutch came in, and had a local shop install it along with a resurfaced flywheel. Now, after only 150 miles on the clutch, the car is sometimes surging/bucking a little at low rpms, and the clutch slips at anything above 30%-40% throttle. I have not pushed the car anywhere over about 70% throttle, since i wanted to break it in for at least 1k miles. It also makes a lot of noise when im on the gas. First its like a scratching noise, thats always been there, that I thought would go away as I broke it in, then its a little louder, along with a fast clicking/ticking noise. I have life time warranty on the clutch, but cannot beleive its the clutch. Im thinking its probably the slave and master cylinders. Problem is, i gotta take it back to the shop and they are gonna charge me another $250 to drop the tranny, money that I DONT HAVE. Now heres the kicker....i busted out the receipt for my clutch, to make sure it had warranty, and they gave me a clutch set for a 1996 corvette!!!!!!!!! I dont know if this is good, bad, or doesnt matter, but they have different part numbers. I checked thier website, and heres the one they gave me Corvette clutch and heres the one i needed Camaro clutch 5.7 What do i do??? Are these 2 clutch sets different? If the clutch is bad, will they honor the warranty??? Or could it just be the slave and master cylinder??? AAAAAHHHHH I DONT KNOW, HELP ME!!!! You guys just dont realize how much trouble i have gone through this last month trying to get my car fixed and done with. I wont even tell you guys about the problems i had with the shop.... /end rant .........please help
sorry for the length

Why would you shell out $250 dropping the tranny? Last time I did it I had the tranny down, new clutch, and all put back together in 4hours working by myself. Its really very easy and if you get stuck theres plenty of people on here to help out.

Jackstands, jack, and a few common tools are all you need. Nothing special required. For the $250 it costs to pay someone, you could buy all the tools needed, pay a friend to help, and still have money left over.

I would first try taking the problem up with Autozone to see if they will work with you since they gave you the wrong part. If you talk to the manager there, he/she should gladly accept the wrong part back and give you the correct one with no questions asked. If you really try, you might even get them to pay for the labor to make things right at the shop too, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Depends on how good you are at that kind of thing.
Your stock disc has springs in the hub to dampen the engagement, while the Corvette disc (LT4) has no springs in the hub because it uses a dual mass flywheel.
You would think that the shop would have noticed the difference when they were putting things together and let you know that something was up. Good luck.

If that's the case, then I would look to the shop for your answers. Don't they have any kind of warranty on their work?
Getting them to replace the clutch should be no problem. Getting them too pony up some dough for your trouble will be next to impossible. I bought a water pump from them for a Lumina. 6 months later the impeller came off the shaft and tore up the pump housing that bolts to the side of the block. They said they were only responsible for the pump and were not liable for any damage caused when it failed.
(I read the warranty, it's true) It also said they will not remburse labor costs in any instance.
As far as the difference between the two pressure paltes, I really couldn't hold the shop responsible for that. There are many aftermarket clutch sets out there that look nothing like the stock pieces they replace. If you supplied the parts, he's just looking to see if it fits.
