problem getting cam out

I broken off 3 t-30 star head bits trying to loosen 1 of the 4 bolts that are on the cam retailer and water pump drive. I haven't loosened any of the 4 bolts yet. I just keep breaking bits. These aren't reverse thread or anything right? I used hardened bits and everything.

Nope, no reverse threads. Mine came out fairly easy. Maybe someone used red LocTight on yours?

I'll try getting harden ones in different brands like dewalt and if those break I think I will just weld regular bolts to them and then I can put a socket on it. These are so retarded.

well got the hardened horx and I broke one loose and it made a pop sound when it broke loose. I stripped out the other 3. Time to do some welding.

you may want to heat them up with a propane torch first... some loctites require heat...

Little late now... he rounded the torx heads. The heat from the weld should help some....

I used to hate torx, now i hate torx with a passion. Everything to do with them is a PITA. you'll notice that the bolt i welded onto it is half the thickness. so why can i easily zip out the regular bolt but i spend 4 hours going back and forth the store wasting money stripping bits just to end up welding this crap? Their wasn't even any locktite on the threads.

Hex and torx bits tend to snap like cake..

I imagine it's cheap china crap to blame as usual. I snapped a Husky hex head the other day.. 7/32 bit I think...

A lot of times with the torx head bolts, you have to get the bit good and square in the hole, take out any slack in the direction you are going and give your ratchet a quick pop to break it loose. Kinda like what you often have to do with brake line nuts.

Or smack the bit in with a hammer while turning it (like an impactor) just to crack it loose. Sharp pressure is better than slow steady pressure in loosening stuff. Heat would have worked too.
