problem with car
was driving car last night and saw check engine light come on for about 3 mins. first time i have seen it come on the car. the car was still driving fine while light was on then it went off and was still fine. i know that for any of you to help me out i would need to get it scanned but thats my question i want to get it scanned for codes but dealership charges alot i think. can i get something fairly cheap that i can scan myself?
oh so u mean an end that converts from obd2 connector to obd1.
is there scanners i can buy for a decent price so that i can scan my own computer though.
i would like to be able to scan my computer whenever i wanted instead of taking it somewhere.

there are several to choose from.
Your probably looking a couple hundred dollars though.
I have an Actron scan tool and I have OBD1 and OBD2 cables and software, this setup ran me around 250 but I got a deal.
Besides you can always charge your buddies a little here and there to offset the costs, I usually do like 10 bucks or something which they jump right on cause its way cheap and I am just trying to offset my purchase price.
OBD2 is easier and autozone can scan it for free but all they do is trouble codes, my scan tool can tell me what a variety of sensors are doing in real time.
94 and 95 F bodies are so rough cause it was the transition years into OBD2. They are still OBD1 cars but both require a scan tool and the 95 requires an OBD2 cable.

would any auto parts stores have a scanner for my 95 car u think? or any good place i could order one online? or can u just get software for a computer to scan and then also just get the cable?
well a friend with a mustang picked up a cheap scanner that would flash certain times like u were saying. it would flash 2 times then a break and flash 3 times and that would mean like a code 23.
isn't there just some cheapo scanner like that, that i could get at a auto place or something for my car.

93 is the only 4th gen you can flash codes out on.
94 and 95 are OBD1 and you have to have a scanner.
93s have a removable chip just like the older 3rd gens did.
In 94 GM went to a sealed PCM that has to be reflashed to change any programming along with this it lost the ability to flash the SES to get codes, the only thing jumping the ALDL will do on a 94 is turn on the fans, good way to trouble shoot your fan motors but thats about it.
If you have a laptop and buy the correct OBD2 cable you can purchase a program called LT1Edit which will give you complete access to all the parameters of the PCM and let change just about everything but be careful changing parameters in the PCM without knowing what you are doing can render your vehicle into a very expensive paper weight.
