Priming the oil pump.

Priming the oil pump.
I'm wondering, I want to drop my motor in with the intake on, so I want to prime the oil pump on the stand. My question is, if I prime the motor one day and start it up the next day is that okay? The motor is brand new. Thanks in advance.

Re: Priming the oil pump.
In other words, it would have oil pressure as fast as possible, but you would wash off any assembly lube that was put on the bearings by priming the pump.
I generally test the pump for proper pressure before installation .... used an old main cap with a pressure gauge attached to it. Not necessary, but good piece of mind.
After installation, I then spin (prime) the pump until oil comes out the filter boss. Then I fill the filter completely with oil before installing it. Then I install the intake (after installing the distributor stub).
Within a few cranks (by the time the engine fires) the oil pressure gauge is coming up. The assembly lube will protect it for the first few cranks, until the oil takes over.

Re: Priming the oil pump.
The last 2 times Ive put mine in Ive had the plugs out, yanked the fuel pump fuse and cranked it over. I also installed a mechanical guage so I could see when I had pressure built up.
