Pressfit Oil Pick up tube.

im ready to close up my motor, and i just need to install the oil pick up tube, but i was wondering if there is some sort of trick to getting it in place because i keep trying to push it in, but can only get about 1/4" in. I dont wanna beat on it since the tube is fragile and it will bend. Any info or advice is appreciated.

You have to beat it in. That's the only way it will stay in place. They make special tools to do this, but you can normally do it on your own with care. It's not really fragile.
I have used an open end wrench around the "collar" and beat on the wrench, next to the pipe. Make sure you get the pickup at the angle you want it before getting it all the way in.

And if you're a real 'belt and suspenders' type, after you have it set up, pull the oil pump back off and apart so it can be brazed in. This way you *know* that sucker isn't falling out or sucking air at the press fit junction.

I used a tool made for installing them. I think autozone rents them out.

You really should take it in and have it welded in place, we never use a press in tube that does not get tig welded in place.
