i dont believe that cam was a very good choice for a large displacement motor

yeh the cam kit was bought originally with the intention of being the only mod then i came across the stroker kit in a deal so i grabbed it up, now im torn about what to do, i dont know all that much about cam matching with heads and the like, what will be the drawbacks of useing that cam and what cam would be a better choice?
also what would be a good choice for the cam only setup, ie max displacement to go with the kit also would strokeing it be a bad descision?

With the hotcam in a 396 depending on what your heads flow I would say 370 - 390 rwhp. Personally I would sell that cam and get something bigger like the GM 847 cam, then you'll make 420 - 440 rwhp with good flowing heads and a proper tune.

Id go with a custom grind cam and much larger than the hot cam on a 396.

I may be wrong, but it would be my assumption that with a 396 you're going to have a big problem with rod to cam clearance. You can get away with it on a 383 with a little work, but a 396 is just enough extra to be a bit of a pain, and likely will require a small base circle cam. at least thats been my experience with them.

I also agree with above, look for a custom grind.
