LS7 torque

I bet the final official HP is 460-470hp.

Notice how the LS7 torque graph terminates somewhere around 4k where they are comparing it, I'm sure the LS7 would make the LT1 look silly from there on up. Obviously being a larger displacement engine with much more expensive hardware in the rotating assembly thats expected out of a 7000rpm engine.

That being said, the LT1 will probably be a really fun engine for street driving with that low end.

Also keep in mind that with the AFM they probably had to hold it back like with the L99 which only has 400hp. I can see a performance oriented version without the AFM and a higher redline easily over 500hp.

So, how many months do you think it'll take for the aftermarket to start offering "LS7" kits for the car?

Re: LT1 - 5th Gen Small Block

I was just thinking. The 3.6 DI is 11.5 compression on 87 octane. I wonder if they are showing this 450hp in a similar state. Curious if a compression bump, tune, hotter VVT settings, and 91 would yield and improvement and how much.

The LT1 already has 11.5:1 compression. I think they're being conservative with their "estimate". GM was the first to adapt SAE power ratings. They know exactly how much power this engine makes.

Interesting that it doesn't say LT1 on the engine. GM put all the names of Gen III and IV's on the top of the Corvette engines.

Re: LT1 - 5th Gen Small Block

It has LS7 torque, can we expect close to LS7 HP? Don't forget, the ZL1 engine was ~550HP before the official SAE rating of 580HP.

Yea, that's why I'm guessing GM put preliminary, because these aren't SAE numbers. Just look at the torque curve of the LS7, it maxes out at 450 torque, however it's SAE number is 470.

I'm fairly certain that the LS7 torque data terminates at 4000rpm. The LS7 carries torque alot better than the LT1 will above there which leads to the hp rating difference. The LS7 has yet to peak in the graph shown above, but they omit that data because they don't want to show you where the LT1 lacks, only where it shines and can match the bottom end performance of the LS7. Definitely an impressive feat but don't go expecting the top end of the LS7 in the LT1.
