Pouring out White smoke(fuel smell)...help please

background: engine has like 38000 miles on it, and recently rebuilt so about 4000 miles on rebuilt engine, i changed my oil the other day, and their was not much oil at all.

story: My car had been stumbling at around 1500-1800 rpm recently. Ok just the other day i was drving my car. and decided to wot from a 5 mph roll stopped right when i was shifting to second, after that it started pouring out ALOT of white smoke that smelt like fuel. and began to stumble from 1500-1800 in every gear. i continued to drive it, a few more minutes, and it was having trouble idling and then i stopped tried to turn it back on and now it wont start, it was turning over, now i just hear a click help please!

my conclusions: fuel pump? blown head gasket, warped, cracked etc.? also maybe a bad starter?

any ideas please and how much $ we looking at
thanks
jp

Hmm...Ok first not a bad starter. Motor just wouldn't turn over if that was bad. White=Steam which probably means blown head gasket/cracked head. You should get a fuel smell coming out of your exhaust no matter what. With little oil and a WOT run you probably got the head gaskets to hot and burned them up. Conclusion time for a pair of new head gaskets and possible resurfacing of the heads.

Mike

Edit: On the whole starter deal yes it's possible the starter went bad.(didn't read the post close enough) But it's also possible that you've locked the motor up.

Well, you're going to hate this, but first sounds like you popped the head gaskets...That's the good news. Bad news is you're motor is locked right now, most likely because of coolant in the cylinders. Now the worse news is that you may have just dameged a few of your connecting rods with that. Since a fluid like coolant is not compressable, and the goal of a piston & rod setup is to compress air, it doesn't work too well trying to compress water. You're best bet is to pull the heads and intake and see how the pistons look in relation to the block and the other pistons. If you still can't tell, it worth while to pull the motor out and tear it down to make sure that nothing else broke....Your situation really stinks, but did you get a warranty with your rebuild?? Now would be a great time to take advantage of it if you did....

Best situation---$175 in parts and fluids and a few hours labor
Worst case---New motor.....
