Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
It has 33k miles on it give or take a few, original miles, very nice car, very very good shape.
Is it around time for the opti to go out? Any signs to watch for? It hasn't gone yet on the car, still original. I know its the unvented opti so it's not as good and all...
Is there a chance I'll never have an optispark problem?
Suggestions, comments, etc? Anything would be great.
Also any common problems I should look for before purchasing/what to expect after purchase.

Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
33k on an all original 94 Z28....I would buy that in a heart beat if it was around me. One thing to keep in mind on these cars, is that they are strong and durable as can be and you can give them hell before something even starts to wear out. I bought my 94 Z with 177,000 miles and the engine still hauls booty and I have all original stuff. The opti should last the life of the car if you treat it right, and by treating it right I mean DO NOT get it wet. It'll fry it, if it gets wet you better pray hard that it will still run when it dries out. Other then that just look for common stuff, rust starting anywhere, worn out parts, how does the transmission shift. Does it have a bad idle or anything, does the turning click when you turn the wheel, many things to look for, but just look for major stuff. Also for a 1400 mile trip, the car would have no problem. I just hope you have a couple hundred dollars to pay for gas.

Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Your probably paying out of ur *** for that out here. I bet you could get an LS1 with more miles on it for the same price. I saw one with that many miles afew weeks ago and the guy wanted like $9k for it. Completly stock. I dunno.
Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Not paying 9k.
Paying slightly over blue book. Actually slightly under.
PS- He's from Michigan and it runs the same time as your car actually! 13.910s.

Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Thanks for your reply as well Shibby. The trans shifted VERY well. Surprised me.
And the steering is one thing I noticed about the car, how really awesome it handled! And how tight/strong the suspension/steering mechanisms felt!

Well, if you are going on a road trip, it might be a good idea to have all of your fluids changed, oil, tranny, rear diff. ect. and also maybe have a technician mechanically inspect the car if you are that worried about its dependibility. It sounds like a good find seeing that it has only 33K on it. I live in the Chicago area and all of the low mileage LT-1s I was looking at were fetching 9K or more and that is kind of pushing LS1 territory so i settled on my 93K car for 5000.00.
Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Your freakin' out over a car with 33k miles on it? Why buy it then?
Mine has over 125k miles and I'd trust it anywhere.
Just give it a good inspection before driving it back. A well taken care of car with 33k miles on it shouldn't have any/many problems.
Good luck!

Re: Possibly Buying a 94 Z...
Well, from experience of recently purchasing a 94 Z with 37k on it......it's probably fine as long as they didn't let the little things get out of hand. In my case the car sufferred the usual intake oil leaks, but no one ever fixed it. The oil and gunk collected on top of the distributor, and sides, and maybe even inside. Stuff like that can cause issues, and is probably why I am in the middle of replacing that opti. That and wonderful Florida rain and humidity probably didn't help it either.
Everything on the car still works fine, I say the primary concern is look for leaks. Mine needed the intake gasket, rear main seal, and oil cooler O-ring. It also appears to leak from the pinion seal.
If the current owner of that car has paid more attention to the car than mine has been, I say snap it up.
