Is it possible to use just a cloyes chain?
In my search for a stronger timing chain I thought about possibly buying a cloyes heavy duty set and just using the chain and possibly the crank sprocket. Is this at all possible or feasable? Arent all SBC chains the same?
The stock sprockets are not setup for a bicycle style roller chain, they are much, much too wide. No unfortunately not all SBC chains are the same, the cam gear on the SBC chain I believe is larger, but I dont recall details since I dont play with SBC stuff.
Maybe you could, if you felt inclined for a project, find a way to get an SBC setup with cam and crank gears. One word of warning is to look for a ROLLER setup, since a non roller I believe wont have the provission for a cam dowel, and those gears are very hard to drill through, unless you took it to a machine shop you would spend a very long time trying to work with it, and a machine shop will be much more accurate anyway.
