Question Is it possible to switch the connectors for the speed sensor and reverse lockout?

Here is the situation...speedo doesn't work and I've noticed the reverse lockout seems to be messed up as well. Is it a possiblity that the connectors for the reverse lockout and the speed sensor were switched? It would make sense why both things won't work but is it even possible? Do they have the same connector style etc? I'm just trying to find every possible solution before I have to spend money for someone else to find the problem. Thanks in advance.

You can look at the wire colors to determine.
VSS-purple and yellow wires
Reverse lock out-brown and lt green wires

Thanks shoebox. You seem to have an answer for every question . Hopefully this is the problem.
