possible to start car without trans installed??
possible to start car without trans installed??
I'm having trouble locating a noise that I'm thinking "might" be in the trans. I've already got it out. It only make noise with the clutch "in" not out. I've already replaced the t/o bearing, and the clutch looked perfect, and so did the pilot bearing and I still have a noise. I'm thinking its the input shaft, not sure. I can lay the trans on floor and hook up the trans harness, so all electronics will be ok. I'm not gonna rev. it up to the moon or anything, just let it run for a sec. with a few revs. so I can see if the noise goes away. Is this a stupid idea?? I dont see why it wont work as long as I dont rev it way up, and it will only be for like 30secs or so. What do u guys think, is this a dumb a$$ idea or what. It sure would narrow down my probs though.
As long as wait is on the tail end of the crank, it'll be fine. Be careful on the throttle as it might rev up a little faster than usual. Plus while the tranny is out of the car, you can check stuff from there.
It must be a messed up sound beacause pulling a tranny to find a ticking sound comes to me as a little extreme.

yea, its a real messed up sound, kinda sounds like a knock, but then again it doesnt. I've already got the trans out (i can take this thing out in an hr. by myself i've done it so many times) and like I said, it only does it with the pedal in, not out. All the clutch looked good, new t/o bearing,sooooooo.......I'm thinking my input shaft might me f$cked, and that would be a good way to narrow it down, but I dont wanna risk messing anything up. Thanks guys, Chris.........
