Lightbulb Possible issues with 1.7:1 rockers on LT1...

Well last year I installed the Crane Variable ration rockers on my TA. I have them set at 1.7:1 on Int & Exh. The car has run GREAT. Today I went into the valve train to see how the combo was holding up after nine months of running. Well lucky for me I decided to do this. It seems five of the valve stems tips were starting to give out for some reason. The arced metal contact point of the rocker that touches the valve was SEVERLY pitted on five valves, the rest looked fine. Right now I'm not real sure what the issue is here, but I'll be calling Crane tomorrow for help in figureing this out. In addition I have access to UT equpment & a metallurgist at the refinery I work at... very cool for looking into ANY type of mettalic failure issues.
Might be a case of the 87,000 mile stock valves just not holding up to the increased contact pressure OR a problem with the contact material in the rocker arms. Oh well just part of the game... I just hate to have to pull the heads now to replace the valves.
Many people have contacted me in the past few months about these RR's, so I wanted to bring this POSSIBLE issue up. I'll keep you posted on what I find out. I really hope it's just a case of weak factory valves. Lash caps might be necessary.
I'll try to post some pics of the damaged RR's tomorrow.
BTW the car was still haulin a$$, LOL.
Steve...

Maybe a result of spring bind with that high of a ratio?

Good call, but I checked for coil bind on the initial set up. All was good.
