I got mine off fine.

Just thread your balancer (Damper) bolt in a couple threads to use to push against with a puller.

I would bet that 90% of the people around here that have taken theirs off, have not used air tools. Don't know what your friend is talking about.

Do a search, there have been plenty of threads lately on this topic. Plenty of good suggestions on how to get it off quickly and easily WITHOUT air tools (or torches).

How are you guys preventing the crank from rotating while pulling off the crank?

If it's a stick car you can put it into a high gear like 4th. That's what I did. I guess you're SOL if you've got an auto, but that's just one more reason why manual cars rock!

Cool

Are you talking about getting the bolt out of the balancer or removing the pressed on balancer. The bolt is a bit tight and is much easier with an impact, but you can wrap the belt around it to hold it still or remove the main pulley and use channel locks to hold it still.

When using a balancer puller you want to use a wrench or ratchet to press it off. Power tools will tear the puller up. OH...If you don't have a puller you can rent one from Auto zone for free. Gotta love that.

They make a tool to hold the flywheel/flexplate still.....or you can use a big ole flathead on the flexplate.

I jammed a bar inbetween the puller and used force on that while using the puller. Didn't turn and worked fine.

Use a 6 inch C clamp and put one end between the spokes of the hub and hook the other end under the torsion bar that runs directly under the pulley. You don't even have to tighten it. It works great and you don't have to hold it while working on the balancer bolts.

I have the ability to use air tools, but opted not to because I was afraid that I would break something. Is it ok to use em, or have people broken something using them in that area? Just doesn't seem good to use a jackhammer on your bottom end, lol

I ended up putting the car in 1st gear and was able to get the hub off pretty easily...I don't understand how people are having such a hard time removing it. But then again I'm using the Kent Moore tool.
