possible blown intake gasket
possible blown intake gasket
kinda curious as to what would cause a blown intake manifold gasket? i pulled my intake today to check out my lifters (another story) and found that the ports on my heads were black (oil coated) and that the bottom of the intake gaskets where still wet with oil (on both gaskets). i also noted that i am burning some oil due to the excessive carbon build up from my exhaust on the concrete where i park. when i installed the gaskets originally, i sprayed them with the copper gasket spray. i also tightened the bolts in sequence and to the proper torque amount via the instructions in my helms manuals. ive got a new set of felpro gaskets and want to put them on but dont want the same thing to happen again. ive got pics of this if anybody wants to check them out. thanks for the help.
btw- keep in mind, i only have had this setup on my car for about 2.5k miles.

Re: possible blown intake gasket
Don't use any sealant on the gaskets, only on the front and back ends of the block. Before you do that, run a thread chaser in all the holes and then blow each hole out with compressed air. Obviously all the mating surfaces have to be clean as a whistle. Before you put the intake back on, have it checked for flatness.
Oh yeah causes for that problem can vary from improper torque to heat from over heating to a bad PCV system.
BTW it never hurts to recheck the torque on it after it's gone through a heat cycle for about 20 minutes and then cooled down again.
