Computer not ready at emmisions and Autozone SES check?!
Hey guys, I disconnected the battery for my stereo install and then went for emissions testing, well they said 4 of my readings came back "not ready". Is that because I didnt drive the car enough miles for the computer to reset?! Also I disconnected the battery yesterday, but drove 250 miles and got the SES light on again. I went to Autozone so they could tell me whats up and they said the diagnostic tool they used wouldnt link because of MY computer. Why is that?! Am I going to have to replace the computer?!?!?! Thanks guys---
Re: Computer not ready at emmisions and Autozone SES check?!
Is it possible you damaged the DLC when you where doing the stereo install? Check the DLC for power and ground. Ground is on pin 4 & 5 and 12 volts is on pin 16. If 16 is dead, check the I/P fuse number 11, 25 amp.
Any reputable garage should have a Snap-on scanner of the Modus, Solus or graphing variety that can communicate with your PCM. If they don't, then more than likely the data portion of the DLC is optifriggin.

anytime you disconnect the batt or clear codes with a scanner, you reset all the emmissions monitors, will need to drive it for close to a week in all modes(surface, idle, freeway, ext.)
Re: Computer not ready at emmisions and Autozone SES check?!
It's probably just an idiot at Autozone that doesn't know how to use the scanner. He prolly forgot to turn your key on all the way. Trust me, I work there and work with some pretty dumb people that don't know crap about anything. I mean, these people don't know the difference between a screw driver and a torque wrench. And yes, these people are the same people that try and scan your car. Go there and tell them you want to use the scanner in the lot and do it yourself. Its really self explanitory.
If anyone is interested in laughing...
One day at work we were puttin the truck up and one of the girls comes up to me with a cap and askes me, "Where do the ignitions go?" I'm like, "HUH?! The whole ignition?" as I was laughing. She goes, "Well the box says ignition!" I couldn't stop laughing. I really don't know why they let people like that work at these places.
Same girl as above... Guy calls on the phone and asks her for front shoes for a 98 Grand Am. (A lot of older people call everything shoes, whether they mean shoes or pads. In our computers, they arn't the same thing, so I just figure out what they mean using a little knowledge.) So she looks up "front shoes" and of course it comes up as "not available." Duh... grand ams have pads in the front, not shoes. So she tells the guy they arn't available and hangs up. So I ask her why they wern't available (not knowing she looked up front SHOES and not pads at the time.) I look close at the screen and go... "I've never heard of a grand am with front drums, have you?" She goes, "What are you talking about?! I looked up shoes, not drums." I shook my head and explained the difference between drum brakes with shoes and rotors with pads. She goes, "IT'S NOT MY FAULT! THE GUY SHOULDA CALLED IT BY THE RIGHT THING!" I go "Oh my god. I work with idiots." and walked away.

The only thing is that the car ran great after I did all that, but started to not be able to hold an idle after I hooked up the wrong year hypertech module to the pcm (95 in a 96') and took it out. Do you think that messed anything up or is it just that I need to drive for a lot longer? What is the DLC, I can atleast check the IP fuse 11, lol
