Lightbulb Poslished intake ...is it possible?

Just wanted to know if anyone has ever polished the outside of the LT1 intake? Does anyone know how much it would cost? I would rather polish the intake than powder coat. I understand that polishing the outside of the intake is different from porting and polishing and is only done to add some bling to the engine. Thanks, Shimaze

Most who have done or tried it say the casting is fairly porous and difficult to make look really good.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a search and could only come up with information on porting the intake. I do believe I have changed my mine about powder coating and polishing. I may look into chrome. ...Shimaze

You're going to have to polish before you can chrome...

I started to do mine, but ran out of time. Now that my stock one is out, Ill be polishing that one and selling it. If its going to generate more interest, Ill do a few and sell them.

Its not fun at all. Very, very, time consuming.

I did a 5.0L Holley Systemax intake earlier this year for a friend. That one took me about 25 hours to complete. I definitely wouldn't have the patience for an LT1 intake.

ceramic coating will hold in the heat.

have any of you tried that flitz ball that's being advertised on spike during the "power hour"? i have a mother's ball and it's not all that great. excelent for larger areas dont get me wrong...brings a mirror shine in seconds with drill set to high, but i'm lacking in the tighter areas. they do have a mini ball now from mother's though

You have to have an EXISTING mirror shine before you use a polishing ball. Those types of things are mainly just for maintaining a shine, not for making one.

Drills work ok, but not nearly as effective or quick as a nice buffer on a stand. Good for testing out the waters though if you want to get your feet wet in the polishing world.

500 would be cheep!

I work in Tool & Die and I did mine and it took 1.5 weeks for me to do mine and I have ALL the tools for it.
It looks cool outside of the car but by the time you get everything back on it you only see 15-25% of the Intake and it's not enough to even look cool.
Then try and keep it clean no way.
I would powder coat mine next time.
