Re: Porting Question

Unfortunatly it is alot more involved than gasket matching. The heads are not even worth touching unless you address the bowls first. Before you attempt anything, I would suggest at a minimum to read alot about porting first, along with studying pictures. David Vizard wrote a pretty decent book on cylinder heads for guys starting out.

Its easy to turn them into nice paperweights if done wrong. Either that or you can actually LOOSE power.

Re: Porting Question

Give it a shot. Worst you can do is **** up a set of castings. It is fun to try and learn. I would befrend someone at a machine shop to use his flowbench to see how you are doing.

You will need to take out alot of material around the valve stem and bowl. Dont take much if any out of the exhaust port underside as there is very little material before the water passages. Make sure the work is consistent too, because it can make tuning a nightmare.

With that being said, dont expect a whole lot of power gains for your 1st time. It is an art when done properly. There is alot of stuff that goes into fluid flow with layering and turbulence.

Re: Porting Question

Lol i ported my own heads and had already done a 3 angle valve job so i didn't want to risk hitting the valve seats and just left the bowls alone. All i did was open up the ports a little ... im hoping for 370 rwhp with a 230/236 cam, heads and true duals. Do a seach in the advance engine tech and there will be a link to a good site in which i used.

good luck!!
