Porting??
Well I blew another head gasket. So I am wondering if I should hold off and get my heads done while its apart. Only problem is right now I am looking at having about 600 or so to spend unless I keep the car down longer.
I know its not enough for any stage 1 heads, but what about sending my heads to have the stockers worked? Any recommendations?

I think Lloyd (NightTrain66) charges about 600 for his headwork and from everyone here he seems to do a good job. Dunno how much Phil (SkaRdom....AI) charges.

Quality machinework will likely cost you near $400 (whether the person doing the work does it *far better* or it can be expensive after someone who farms it out marks it up). After buying parts etc., there wont be much $ to allocate towards labor (porting), ... and you get what you pay for in most cases.
The first thing I'd do is try to have the deck of the heads hardness checked if you lost a gasket to see if they're even worth doing anything to.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have had the heads checked and they are fine. I caught it before it overheated. I knew something was wrong when out of the blue my temps started to raise rapidly. So I parked the car.

The aluminum will lose it's heat treat (hardness) & require repair and/or re-heat treating (which will require re-machining just about everything in alot of cases). If they're severely warped, or you even think they might have been overheated, then you need to have them hardness checked - it should be cheap. If they're just soft between the adjacent exhaust ports, then that material can be welded back in w/o heat treating, though it's probably not worth it. If theyre soft out on the deck as well, then it's time for a new set of castings.
Deffinately have them ported after they check OK might as well whilel its apart.
The fixing procedure can be very costly if they get hurt bad, I had a blown gasket take out actual head material between the two center cyl.s!!! They had to weld in material the resurface teh heads and pressure test them, it was very expensive (250 for one head) but since they were fancily ported heads I had to do it (well not really but I wanted to reuse then some day). Any way the machinist told me that never to use them with any forced induction or nitrous....lol.
