I kinda disagree with everyone on this one. A good friend of mine dyno'd about 275 RWHP in pretty stcok trim. He added FLP L/T's and had a competent porter show him how to port the heads. The ported did one intake and one exhaust, and my buddy copied it for the rest of the ports. Witht he stock cam he then made 342 RWHP. That's quite a gain from heads and headers, IMO.
Not sure about LT1 heads ported and the stock cam, but the moderator in the Speed Freaks section of jeepsunlimited.com has a 92 Cherokee with the HO 4.0, and he ported the stock head and got around 16hp and knocked about 2 tenths off his 1/4 time (down to 15.03). He just has every single bolt on and stock cam. If he can squeeze that much extra out of a 4.0 I6 Jeep motor with the stock cam, I'm sure you can gain at least 25hp on an LT1 on the stock cam.

Doing ported heads without changing the cam is a brain free move.
If nothing else, at least browse the classified ads on this site and find a used cam for cheap. Practically anything is better than that stock cam.

I completely disagree with the notion that porting heads on a stock F-Body is a waste of time. Used in conjunction with a bigger cam and headers is ideal, but not necessarily the only way to go. It is true that doing a cam swap while the heads are off is the easiest way and I would suggest it. But I did not go this route. I slapped a set of LT4 L.E. Ported and Polished Heads port matched to an LT4 intake with NO exhaust mods and no intake mods what-so-ever and put down a 13.2 at 110mph. That was my first time ever to the track. But............. that is a set of professionally ported heads. I think the main issue here should be weither or not this "guy" that owes you money is really the way to go for porting.....
Porting heads is no saturday dremel job. It requires skill and many mess-ups to perfect it.

If the notion that porting the stock heads and keeping the stock cam yield no hp, then basically there would be minimal hp increases when switching from, say, stock heads on a late 70's Camaro to Performer RPM heads but still keeping the stock cam. It's simple physics for lack of better words that the freer flowing the heads are, the more air/fuel mixture is allowed into the combustion chamber to be compressed and burned. Sure a stock cam won't use the full potential of good heads, but it will still be an improvement. For those that ported the heads before switching cams, and saying they didn't get any hp increases, then something's wrong with the car or the person porting them made a mistake while porting.

The only reason that i got the heads before the cam was because I blew a headgasket, so it was in my best interest to do the heads then. Its a matter of time, money and personal preference on whats is best. Just remember that heads are where all the power is at....
I also disagree with the people saying porting stock heads without changing the cam is not worthwhile. If you put a cam like lets say a cc306 on stock untouched heads you will not make as much power as if you throw on a set of lets say AFR's.Cams make power but there is alot more power in a good set of heads. So if you trust this guy and he has experence porting heads then go for it you will definitely see a difference.
