Buddy with m6, 373s, and mostbolt ons had max ported lt1 heads, stock cam. Went 12.50s at 110. Take it for what you want. More power from cam first IMO, but working on the heads doesnt hurt.

Check out the post asking for people w/ dynoed 400 hp, floating around here, that will give you a lot of your answers.

Keep this in mind also, the LS1 motors are basically the same stock Chevy small block motor you have but with GREAT flowing stock cylinder heads due to there design. Porting your stock LT1 heads without a cam change, sort of makes you like the LS1, if you know what i mean?

I had this idea too, but I ended up doing a cam as well as the heads. I have heard of one other person with bolt on, ported heads and stock cam, they trapped 110-111, so I think it's very worthwhile.

I know this has probably been chewed up and spit out before, but man, if you are going so far into the motor as to pull the heads, you will honestly be kicking yourself for not changing the cam out while you're in there. Unless you are doing it as step by step tuning/dyno #s/experiment, I would throw one in while you're in there.

Obviously if they could port the heads to open up the flow at lower lift numbers, you will see more hp, quicker throttle response, etc. A cam will just amplify those results.

You would also have to drop some change on your intake as well in the end.

A member of my club just recently put headers, ORY and ported heads with 1.6 rockers on his car.

He dynoed ad 312HP and 339.6 TQ, running slightly rich starting at 12.4 and getting richer the higher he went. This on a stock tune mind you.

He's got basic bolt ons, no cam or anything.

I'm looking forward to what he does at the track.

I recently put some ported heads. Well , let me re[hrase that, they are basically a bowl clean up and valve job heads (GTP stage 1) on my car. Still the stock cam. BUt I do have 1.6 RR and Headers. Made 311 SAE RWHP and 339 RWTQ. I had 2-3 degrees of knock thoughout becuase my i pipe was ratlling bad (had not had time to get it wleded yet) and I am running 11.9-11 AFR starting at 4900 RPM. With that knock gone and a new program to lean me out a little, I figure around 315-320 RWHP.

I personnaly think the heads are where you get a good amount of your power from. I mean that is around ls1 #s and sitll my stock cam. But this is just an opinion of mine, based on some fact

i was thinking of going with a 230/236 on a 109lsa. but then a buddy of mine and i were talking and i got to thinking about seeing how far a person could go with a stock cam. i mean port the heads longtubes all the bolt ons and tunning of course. so its good to here how people are doing with the stock cam. makes me want to do it even more now.
